Meghan Johnstone
(CD) Dona
Meghan is a DONA certified Birth Doula, a CAPPA trained Postpartum Doula, certified Placenta Encapsulation Specialist, and Certified Lactation Educator. Meghan also has a Masters in Social Work and she has bridged her knowledge and experience from that field into serving families in her doula work. Meghan believes that birth is an innate and intuitive process and that women are wise and capable. She emphasizes that pregnancy, birth, and the early postpartum time are uniquely special seasons in a family’s life that deserve to be honored and supported.
After having two doula-supported births that left her feeling strong, empowered and proud, Meghan felt called to birth work. She completed the DONA Birth Doula training in 2014 and has since attended hundreds of births. She furthered her birth work education by completing the CAPPA Postpartum Doula training and has expanded her services to support families in the precious postpartum time as well as during the birth.
She continues to grow her professional skill set with several birth related trainings including Spinning Babies, Comfort Measures in Labor, Breastfeeding for Doulas, VBAC for Doulas, and Rebozo. In addition, she has taken several birth education courses including Hypnobirthing, Birthing From Within, and The Complete Guide to Freebirth. She uses her diverse training and experience to focus on the physiology of labor, as well as the emotional and mental aspects that play a role.
Meghan has always enjoyed working closely with people and helping them to feel empowered and informed. She cherishes the opportunity to partner with families, developing a strong rapport and understanding of what they are hoping for during their birth and how to best support their experience so that it is one that leaves them feeling empowered, supported, and transformed.
When she’s not attending births or caring for newborns overnight, she enjoys traveling with her family. She also shares her knowledge with the new generation of doulas and mentors those that are just beginning.
*While the professional birth and postpartum doulas listed on the website are carefully screened and selected by the Birth Education Center, they are not employees. All doulas invest in the program by paying a yearly listing fee. By entering into contract with your doula, you do so at your own risk. The doulas are responsible for the means and methods for providing non-medical support to families, within their scope of practice.
