Care Messer- C.Ht., HypnoBirthing, Comfort Measures, Release & Relax,
                                 Doula Classes, Hospital 101

Care is the founder of The Birth Education Center of San Diego. Care discovered HypnoBirthing with the birth of her daughter in 2008. It changed her life's path. Care became a doula under the instruction of Gerri Ryan through DONA and went on to become certified in HypnoBirthing. Care created her company San Diego HypnoBirthing and has taught HypnoBirthing since 2009.  Care is also a Certified Placenta Encapsulationist. She has trained with ICEA to become certified as an international educator and trained with Cappa to be a Postpartum Doula. Care serves as the Director of Cap Wellness Center in Encinitas and teaches at both locations. Care offers Natural Birth Training to student nurses at SDSU and local nurse trainings in hospital. She holds a board position with The Nizhoni Institute of Midwifery and recently served as Vice President of the San Diego Birth Network. She is a mom of two daughters and two feisty Pomerainians.

Martha Bustamante - Doula Series, Rebozo Certification, VBAC 101 Director of Programs
Martha Bustamante is a wife, businesswoman, and mother of two grown daughters, one hospital cesarean birth and a peaceful HBAC (home birth after cesarean). Having served her friends and family as a lay doula for some 20+ years, including taking time off to raise her family, Martha recently certified as a doula through DONA and regularly works with first time mothers, both in San Diego and Baja California in both English and Spanish.  Martha is also a CAPPA trained Postpartum Doula and a Certified Rebozo Instructor.  Having worked in mental health, Martha has successfully assisted mothers with various challenges, and as a result, has co-authored and co-teaches with Care Messer the "Finishing Series" for doulas to compliment their choice of certification training, with the goal of facilitating many optimal, empowering births in San Diego County's various birthing facilities and homes alike. 




Ashley Stetson- HypnoBirthing, Comfort Measures, Hospital 101
Ashley found her passion for birth after she delivered her triplets in 2011. The value of a doula was made evident by her birth experience. Ashley was inspired and took her DONA doula training and jumped into her journey of supporting women. She naturally found a passion for HypnoBirthing and childbirth education. She hopes to use these tools to give families and the support and knowledge they need to have amazing birth experiences.









Debbe Cannone- HypnoBirthing, Comfort Measures, Hospital 101
Debbe is a DONA and toLabor trained birth and labor doula who started her doula journey as a volunteer at UCSD’s Hearts and Hands program after her son asked her to be his doula. This profoundly changed her life’s journey. She soon realized that she had a deep passion for supporting women and their partners on their birthing journey. She became a certified lactation educator, HypnoBirthing instructor, and Rebozo instructor in her pursuit of providing the best possible support for her birthing couples. Debbe is honored to be a part of the Birth Education Center’s teaching core. The Center’s mission to empower parents through education resonates with Debbe’s own passion to inform and support pregnant couples in having the most amazing birthing year experience possible.






Nikki Helms- Newborn Care Class and Practically Postpartum
Nikki is a wife and mother of two, DONA and CAPPA trained labor, delivery and postpartum doula, student Midwife and Birthing From Within mentor. She teaches the Newborn Care class and is the developer and instructor of the Practically Postpartum classes that are taught at the Birth Education Center. 










Sue Lockhart - Infant CPR


Sue Lockhart has been teaching CPR and other wellness classes in San Diego since 1991. A mother of three, she worked part-time for the American Red Cross for 13 years as a Contract Instructor. In 2004 she co-founded OptiWell, Inc., to provide San Diego with the Optimum in Wellness Training. Sue received the American Red Cross Lifesaving Award of Merit and the City of San Diego Fire and Life Safety Services "Lifesaving Citation" in recognition for saving a life by direct action. Jen Varela - Gentle Sleep Solutions

Jen Varela is the Founder of Sugar Night Night and is a certified Gentle Sleep Coach sm.  She received her Bachelor of Science Degree in Human Services with an emphasis in Counseling from California State University, Fullerton.  Working with families in San Diego and Orange County she provides parents with personal instruction and the best techniques to promote great sleep habits for infants, toddlers and children; all the while keeping tears to a minimum.  For more information about Jen Varela and her services go to www.sugarnightnight.com
