Doula 102
Gathering Skills

Part 2 -
Your foundation is under construction and almost complete. Now to add the parents & baby… What do you bring, say and do? It’s all covered here. Doula bag essentials is part of this class because you don’t need the kitchen sink in there! Interviewing skills are a must because the doula interviews the parents just as much as they interview you. You’ll learn what to put in your files, how much to charge(and why), what kind of education you need to provide, what referrals you should have handy and how to feel prepared for your prenatal visits. The energetic side of birth is also covered in this class – how to attract the ones you need and heal yourself before you enter into a doula/parent relationship. You will also learn how to handle a cold birth(one with no prenatal visits, where you are the volunteer or backup doula).  Come prepared with questions for our discussion at the end!

Registration for the Finishing series classes closes 1 week prior to each class and each class has a cap on how many we can take. Sign up early! We need time to get handouts etc. in order for each class.

If you are a Hearts and Hands volunteer doula from UCSD and are interested in participating in the BEC doula matching referral program, you need to go through a certifying organization training first. We recommend the DONA training with Gerri Ryan.

This class is for doulas in training, working toward their certification.
